Dear Disc Golfers,
The Silicon Valley Disc Golf Club, a California non-profit, public benefit corporation is having its Annual Meeting and Elections on Saturday, May 15th at 10 AM at the Coyote Creek Disc Golf Course at Hellyer Park in San Jose. We’ll assemble at the wood bulletin board located on the east side of Highway #101 (it’s where the “back nine” holes are located). Hope to see you there for a little bit of administrative work and a lot of playing of disc golf
Enclosed you’ll find the By-Laws for the corporation. The 1st amendment to the By-Laws changed the date of the Annual Meeting from the last Sunday in April (Master’s Cup time in Santa Cruz) to the 3rd Saturday in May. Currently, Tom Schot is President, Doug Korns is Vice President and Jim Challas is Secretary-Treasurer of the Board of Directors. All 3 Directors are seeking re-election and we don’t have nominations at this time for others seeking office.
We’ve established a policy of annual membership dues of $20 ($10 for spouse, $10 per child). The dues will help defer our annual costs of insurance ($750), corporate taxes ($200), weed cutting ($250 per job) and miscellaneous expenses. Dues paying members will have the right to vote and will receive a periodic newsletter.
Up to this point in time we’ve relied almost entirely upon the contributions of Santa Clara Valley Mortgage to develop and sustain disc golf in San Jose. Alternative sources for financing need to be found and nurtured or disc golf will not continue at Hellyer Park.
Most of the members of the Club issued checks for dues which were not cashed initially and then the checks were too old to cash by the time a bank account was established. You showed an initial financial interest in establishing disc golf and that’s why you received continuing information about our efforts. In the future only annual dues paying members will receive the benefits of membership. Please help sustain disc golf here by annually renewing. Find one friend to join you in acquiring a membership. Long live disc golf in the Silicon Valley.
See you on Saturday, May 15, 10 AM.
Tom Schot
